Our recruiting focuses only on students with
outstanding academic records at national law schools.
Associates who are bright, industrious and eager to experience
the practice of law at an accelerated pace will find tremendous
job satisfaction at our firm. Orlando provides unparalleled
opportunities for young lawyers to put down professional roots
and the firm has developed a sophisticated and challenging
practice despite its small size. In addition to handling
business transactional matters, we try cases frequently, and
have an active appellate practice. Excellence in researching
and writing is required of all attorneys.
New associates will be involved in all aspects of matters,
including substantial personal contact with clients and
courtrooms. The firm's shareholders play an active role in
training and overseeing the growth and development of each
associate. Although new associates are quickly given a number
of matters for which they are primarily responsible, each
associate also works daily on a variety of matters for the
shareholders. Associates will therefore assist in cases,
including second-chairing trials, prepare written submissions
for cases, and conduct all aspects of pretrial discovery. On
other portions of our website, you can read about the
individual experiences of our associates. Each offers their own
candid insight concerning what has made working at Litchford
& Christopher unique and rewarding.
Associates are each individually compensated commensurate
with their development as lawyers and their contributions to
the firm. The firm maintains no set salary track for associates
and each attorney progresses at his or her own speed. We have
never attempted to pay the "going rate" for recent law school
graduates. Significant salary increases are made as soon as
associates have demonstrated their abilities and worth to the
firm. Our associates receive most benefits customary for new
attorneys in Orlando including: commencement bonus to defray
the costs of moving and taking the Florida Bar examination,
comprehensive medical insurance, individual disability
insurance (after six months with the firm), paid parking, two
weeks vacation, costs of seminars and continuing legal
education, and all bar dues and expenses. After a year with the
firm, associates are eligible to participate in the firm's
generous 401k retirement and profit sharing plan.
Litchford & Christopher recognizes that education at
leading national law schools can be quite expensive today. In
order to attract appropriate legal talent, Litchford &
Christopher may offer qualified students a loan-payment
incentive whereby starting students will not only receive
Litchford & Christopher's standard starting salary, but the
firm may also pay some or all of the new lawyer's monthly
student loan payments. We believe that this loan-payment
incentive can take financial pressure off new lawyers beginning
their practice so that they may consider all that Litchford
& Christopher and Orlando have to offer without regard to
student loan considerations.
Litchford & Christopher reimburses associates' expenses
and allots time in connection with development of new clients
and areas of expertise, yet an associate's progress is not
primarily dependent on creation of new business. Associates are
given the opportunity to participate with the firm's other
attorneys in a coaching program staffed by outside consultants
that allows each attorney to develop solid marketing skills.
Shareholder decisions are based upon individual growth and
achievement, but typically are made in seven years.
